First day of class……

Today was basically and introduction of what the rest of the summer semester will be like. I must say I am not an art person so this is all new territory for me. I have taken art history and felt that was too much art for me. This class is different from the art history where I can experiment. It should be fun!

The first thing we had to do is draw a chair. I looked at it and thought to myself this shouldn’t be to bad. As soon as I got started it was bad. I can not rememberer the last time I drew something but it was a bit of a challenge but I got through it and I think I did ok. We were are also supposed to draw a tree. I don’t know how that is going to go. I am looking out the window at the trees and I am a little intimidated by how am I going to draw a tree.

  1. Nell Ruby says:

Don’t worry about how to–just begin. I find it easiest not to imagine the outcome, but simply to have a framework (in this case a piece of charcoal and a piece of paper) and time. Then the problems that come up are solved as they come up. It seems like too much of an intimidating mountain to imagine the finished thing to me, instead take it just one step at a time. Remember that we are looking at the process, and the work as a map of the seeing along the way, and not so much the product as the goal…
